MANSLAUGHTER ( Penal Code 192)
Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice. There are three categories of manslaughter crimes: voluntary manslaughter (P.C. 192 (a)), involuntary manslaughter (P.C. 192 (b) ) and vehicular manslaughter (P.C. 192 (c)). Voluntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of another during a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion. Involuntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of another during an unlawful act not amounting to a felony or in the commission of a lawful act that might produce death in an unlawful manner (other than in a vehicle). Vehicular manslaughter is the taking of another’s life during the unlawful operation of a motor vehicle with gross negligence, or driving a vehicle during a lawful act with gross negligence.
